WHAT TO EXPECT
Do’s and Don’t’s on Day of Surgery
Things to Note:
- Make sure if you need to be Nil Per mouth before surgery.
- If you are due for General anaesthesia then you must be nil per os for 4-6 hours before surgery.
- Continue using your chronic medication even on the day of surgery.
- Remember to bring a driver as you cannot drive on the day of surgery.
- Remember to bring a list of your chronic medication and allergies, if possible.
- Do not wear eye makeup to the theatre.
- Administrative documents to bring along:
- ID book or card.
- Medical aid card or details.
- Contact details of your family or friends who will be helping you with driving.
- Bring only the essentials with you:
- There will be a locker for your belongings while you are in surgery.
